I watched Shiori Ito’s documentary Black Box Diaries in Tokyo. In Japan, it’s often treated as a topic people hesitate to touch, yet the film clearly holds strong public value. In this episode, I reflect on the pressure society places on survivors to carry “weakness” and “shame,” and how that kind of gaze is often directed at many minorities, including single parents. Screenings are gradually expanding across Japan.
