良く似た研究にフレーム・額縁が絵画に及ぼす影響を調べた研究もあったように思います。
また、写真の分野では同じようにアスペクト比（縦と横の比率）3:2、4:3、1:1、6:7、5:4等によって印象が変わることが知られています。
同じ絵であっても額縁の比率によって印象が変わるということから余白や間合いも関連づけられるかもしれませんね。
